Weekly Meetings
Meetings are held on Monday evenings at St. Matthews school in the Pacific Palisades, California. Meetings are held outdoors and in the compliance with Covid-19 safety protocols.
Summer Activities
All Scouts participate in a one week at camp Emerald Bay on Catalina Island. 2022 dates are July 9th-16th. (required)
2nd and 3rd year Scouts participate in a two week High Adventure backpacking trip. Destinations have included The Boundary Waters, Yosemite National Park, Olympic National Park, Alaska, Salmon River, and more.
Senior scouts participate in their rigorous two week 65 mile backpacking trek at Philmont Ranch in the New Mexico Wilderness.
Weekend Campouts / Practice Hikes
Campouts are held during the school year on the first weekend of the month (typically Saturday morning- Sunday afternoon).
Locations may include: Joshua Tree, Malibu Creek, San Diego, Lake Buena Vista, and more. Packing list - car camping
Older Scouts participating in High Adventure trips must also complete practice hikes.

FAQs
What makes 223 Girls exceptional?
Our Troop 223G is entirely youth led. We allow and expect the kids to lead. Our troop specializes in teaching leadership. Our Scoutmaster has developed a fully comprehensive leadership training for all 3rd year scouts on their path to being a patrol leader.
Advancement, awards, merit badges and path to Eagle Rank are built into the program.
Our infrastructure: Including our grounds, pools, Emerald Bay campsite, High Adventure trips, Eagle Court of Honor, and trained Assistant Scout Masters (ASMs).
Our program includes a week at camp Emerald Bay for all girls and a two week High Adventure backpacking trip for the older girls.
All adult volunteers (aka ASMs) are trained in Youth Protection annually and are background checked. Parent participation is encouraged.
Our troop offers Scholarships. If your family needs assistance with the annual fees, please contact us to discuss scholarship options.
What does a typical girl’s journey look like?
New Scouts join during their 5th or 6th grade. They start their journey in the New Scout patrol for a period of about 4 months. After this time, they advance to 1st year rank and are invited to join a patrol (consisting of 1st, 2nd and 3rd year Scouts) where they will stay through their 3rd year. Girls start their 3rd year at Emerald Bay with leadership training. After completion, they are prepared to lead their patrol and advance to their role as Patrol Leader. After they have successfully led their patrol for a period of 6 months, they advance to their 4th year as a senior Scout. The seniors lead the entire troop and complete their Eagle Scout service project.
What do new Scouts do during their meeting?
They learn new skills by working on merit badges. They learn team building by competing in age appropriate competitions and games using scout skills. They begin their ethical journey by sharing the good turns they did during the week.
What is Emerald Bay?
The entire troop 223 (boys and girls) spends an entire week at Camp Emerald Bay on Catalina Island.
This summer, the camp will be held from July 9th -17th, 2022. Parents and siblings are invited to join for parents weekend, Friday-Sunday.
Scout attendance is required and ASM encouraged.
What is High Adventure and What is Philmont?
High Adventure is for girls in their 2nd and 3rd years of our program. This two week backpacking trip has taken place in Yosemite, Olympic National Park, Alaska, Salmon River, and other similar locations.
Philmont Scout Ranch is the final backpacking trip before a Scout earns Eagle rank. Philmont Ranch is located in the rugged northern New Mexico wilderness. A 65 mile backpacking trek, horseback cavalcades, and service programs are all part of this capstone experience for the senior Scouts.
What is an Eagle Scout?
Those who have earned the Eagle Scout rank count it among their most treasured achievements. Eagle Scout is the highest achievement or rank attainable in the Scouts BSA program. This includes an extensive service project benefiting a local nonprofit that the Scout plans, organizes, leads, and manages. The project must generate over 100 service hours. Eagle Scout rank is often earned by the end of the 9th grade.
What is Youth Protection Training?
BSA places the highest importance on creating the most secure environment possible for our youth members. To maintain such an environment, the BSA requires numerous procedural and leadership training programs for all adult volunteers annually. All ASMs are also background checked.
